Star Star Star

[I wish our computer was in the living room so I could watch tv while I type]

When Laydon got to school it was only a few minutes til lunch whi was well because he had stopped by a taco bell and starbucks on his way home. The attendence desk lady just rolled her eyes when she saw him. In his fourth peiod he just slid into his desk next to his best firend, Ethan. Lucky for him the teacher had just told everyone to clean up.

Ethan turned to him and said "Where were you? Jocelyn looked ready to kill me when I said I had no idea." Jocelyn was Laydon's girlfriend, that he completely forgot about with the girl in the park.

"Sorry, dude," Laydon answered. "I slept badly then went to the park to get my mind off of it." He shrugged.

"Oh?" Ethan raised an eyebrow. "On one hand, go to school to see people who love him and save his best friend from impending doo; but on the other hadn a park. Which would he choose." He gave Laydon the look.

"Both," Laydon answered. "I'm here aren't I?"

"True." Ethan paused for the bell to ring. "But only because grams would kick your ass if you didn't."

They walked out of the classroom, heading toward their designated lunch table, chatting about what Laydon had missed out on earlier that day.

"I'm gonna go get lunch, you want?" Ethan asked Laydon as they thru their bags on the table.

"Nah," Laydon said holding up the taco bell bag. "Hey Tyler," he said to his friends, "J." He hugged one of the girls, Jessy. His other friends were by him, sitting down, acting out a scene from Monty Python or kicking around an orange. He sat down unwrapping his food about to take a bite of the still warm crap in a shell when his phone vibrated. Setting it down he checked his phone. Suprised it was from Ethan. May day! Incoming! Code Jo, it read. Laydon looked up to see Ethan waving his hands in the air while percautiously balancing a tower of food. However the intent of his message was in front of him. Laydon's girlfriend, Jocelyn, waas coming his way.

She was a good enough looking girl, with soft brown eyes and tightly curled hair. She was however, a slight nerd, wearing glasses, in every advanced class, a tutor, and more. But that wasn't why Ethan and his other friends made such a big deal about her. When Laydon first started hanging out with her she had been really nice, and they got along well, but when he asked her "out" she got a little over protective. And then Ethan started teasing her like an older brother. Things spiraled out of control from there.

"Hey, Lay," she said to him before giving him a quick kiss. "Didn't catch you earlier."

They both sat down. "Grams needed help packing," Laydon shrugged. His grandmother was packing up all of his grandfathers things for Laydon's aunts.

"Oh," Jocelyn said stiffly. "That's cool."

Throughout lunch Jocelyn fought to keep Laydon's attention, chatting about God doesn't even know what, but Laydon, being the gentlemen he is just nodded and smiled with her. However when the bell rang he was glad to be going to art with Ethan and Haley and Jessy and Monica instead of lunch with Jocelyn.

As they walked their seperate ways Ethan looked over his shoulder to check that Jocelyn was out of earshot. When he saw he was he asked his question, "Why'd you lie to her?"

"Huh?" Laydon wasn't paying attention.

"Why didn't you tell her what happened this morning?" Ethan explained.

"Oh," Laydon said shuffling his feet as they walked into class. "I don't know, really. I just felt like she would make this huge deal out of it if she knew I was ditching again. I had been stopping."

As they sat down Jessy asked, "What happened?"

"I slept badly," Laydon said honestly. He knew he could trust them along with Ethan. "And then I went to the park afterwards, just to think."

"Okay," Jess said dropping it.

Monica kind of looked around but didn't say anything.

"If it was anybody but Jocelyn I'd have to kick your ass," Haley smiled showing her teeth.

"Hey, hey," Jessy objected to the cursing. "None of that."

Then the late bell rang and Mr. Doyle started talking about shading and light and things Laydon already new about. So instead of listening his mind wandered back to the park. To the pale girl with fire hair. She hadn't given him her name.

"Alright," Mr. Doyle said calling Laydon's attention back to him. "Knowing what you know now, knowing what you knew then," he smiled quoting Nightmare Before Christmas making Monica smile, "I would like you to draw a portrait. I don't care how well it is, just how you take this person, how you imagine them to be, how you decipher them. I don't care if it is their real apppearance or the monster they really are onr the inner beauty that shines through them, just a portrait of how you see them." He waved his hand then added, "Sketches, people. I don't want any paintings, markers or what not, just sketches. And....go!"

As Laydon took out his black sketch book he said to Ethan, "So I met this girl at the park." He said it nonchalantly. The girls looked over at him when he said it and exchanged smiles. Laydon knew they just wanted him and Jo to break up.

"Oh really," his voice got high, mocking Laydon. "Who was she?" He actually sounded like the Strange man pointing in Meaning of Life at the Find the Fish part.

"New chick that just moved here," Laydon said trying to be cool about it. Then Monica caught his eye. "Sorry, I mean girl. She was gorgeous."

"Really?" They all almost said at the same time.

"More than Natalie Portman and Juliet Simms," Laydon said dreamily.

"Shi--dang, man," Ethan said laughing. "That amazing?"

"You don't even know," Laydon said outlining his drawing.

Ethan didn't say anything nor did any of the girls. As they drew Laydon worked his best to make his portrait look as perfect as she had when he saw her. Of course he was drawing the girl from the park. And it wasn't long before Ethan said something.

"Woah. If the girl from the park looks anything like that I'll date her." Ethan smiled widely, tugging on his football jersey.

"Haha," Laydon said. "She didn't seem to date."

"Someone not interested in you, love?" Haley asked. "But, hey, what are you trying for you've got Jocelyn, right J-dog?" She nudged Jessy.

"Yeah, let us not forget about the lovely Jocelyn," She laughed at her nickname.

"You know who that drawing looks like?" Monni asked.

"Who?" They all starred at her.

"Some anime girl?" Ethan teased.

"Nao," Monica scowled. "The girl who's chatting with Mr. Doyle." She pointed to the Teacher's desk.
